DUE TO THE PANDEMIC

IN-PERSON MEETINGS ARE CANCELLED.

Our Third Zoom Meeting of the 2023-24 Program Year Is November 18th

Hosted By Louise Moises

Featured Reader: Daniel Williams

He Will Read Poems From a Journey to Santa Fe & Taos.

"A few years ago, prior to the Covid, my daughter and I made a journey to Santa Fe and Taos.  I was stricken with the primal beauty of the place, the large flat spaces leading up to the mountains like cutouts on the horizon, the Rio Grande with its lines of golden cottonwoods, all the planets lovely in the sky at dawn and dusk;  but it was something more, the people, both Native and European, and the ancient Dios de los Muertos, a tribute to the venerated dead celebrated on November first (children) and November second (adults). I will enjoy sharing poems I wrote after being there."

Daniel Williams, a native Californian and poet of the Central Sierra, has published poems in many journals and anthologies and has read in many different venues.  He received his master's degree in literature from San Jose State University and has taught on the community college and state college levels.  Mr. Williams is a long-time member of Poets & Writers, Poets West, Chaparral Poets, and the Ina Coolbrith Circle.  He has won several first-place prizes in ICC contests and has been nominated for a Pushcart prize in poetry by College of the Redwoods.  Mr. Williams is author of 4 chapbooks, Prince Hamlet National Park, Lost Language of Mars, Angelis Salmonis and a Haunted Coastline, and Flores por los Muertos.  Some of his poems will be discovered in Yosemite's time capsule when it is opened, and he has a haiku engraved on Maven, the Martian explorer.  Daniel Williams is the recipient of the Robinson Jeffers Tor House award 2023, for his poem, "Songs of the Sangre de Cristos."

The reading will be followed by an open mic (via zoom).

More details will be provided as we near the 28th.
